  • Claude Roumain of Génération 2004 discusses the 6 March 1999 accord between the coalition of opposition parties the Espace de Concertation and the government of René Préval to unblock the political crisis and organize elections (despite OPL's refusal to sign in the accord). Jean Dominique asks Roumain about his political trajectory, as a self-declared leftist and progressive who became close to Marc Bazin and held office during the coup years. Roumain argues that Haiti needs a more inclusive democratic movement, in contrast to the "Manichaeism" of Lavalas, which according to Roumain is a failure. Does that mean, asks Dominique, that Macoutes and putschists should be part of the movement? Roumain also accuses Lavalas of corruption. Dominique asks if corruption doesn't run deeper than Lavalas, if it is not a phenomenon that affects the whole of Haitian society.

  • Claude Roumain, de Génération 2004, parle de l’accord du 6 Mars 1999 entre l’Espace de Concertation (la coalition des partis d’opposition) et le gouvernement Préval, pour dénouer la crise politique et organiser des élections (même si l’OPL a refusé de signer l’accord). Jean Dominique interroge Roumain sur son parcours politique, puisqu’il s’était déclaré de gauche et progressiste mais était proche de Marc Bazin, et avait accepté un poste durant le coup d’état. Roumain croit qu’Haïti a besoin d’un mouvement démocratique plus inclusif, contrairement au manichéisme de Lavalas qui, d’après Roumain, est un échec. Dominique lui demande si cela signifie que les macoutes et les putschistes peuvent participer à ce mouvement. Roumain dénonce la corruption de Lavalas. Dominique demande si la corruption n’est pas plus profonde que Lavalas, si ce n’est pas un phénomène qui affecte toutes les couches et tous les aspects de la société haïtienne.
