She discusses the activism of the Haitian community in New York, the consulate's work putting an end to passport scams run by private agencies, the consulate's support of an exhibition of Haitian painters in New York, the potential of the Haitian diaspora to invest in Haiti, and the question of deportees. Many of the deportees are small-scale drug dealers or people with DUIs who speak neither Creole nor French. She describes too the presence of enemies of democracy, who are gathering strength and speaking openly abroad, and the challenges of encouraging a culture of mutual respect at the consulate rather than a culture of patronage ("moun pa"). They end by discussing the question of dual nationality.
