Agronomist Jean-Claude Délicé, director of ODVA, and rice farmer Charles Suffrard describe the damage to the Artibonite after the passage of Hurricane Georges. The hurricane itself did not hit the Artibonite Valley; it was flooding after the storm that destroyed the irrigation system. Parts of the Artibonite are still inaccessible. They discuss the hurricane's potential effects on the agrarian reform program, and the role of agricultural credit in helping farmers recover. They also discuss the problem of the rice disease known as sheath rot, which has hit La Crête rice hardest.
