  • On the tenth anniversary of the Saint Jean Bosco massacre, Eliphète St. Pierre, Maryse Jean-Charles, and Lenz Jean-François of SAJ/Veye Yo discuss the lack of justice for the victims of the massacre and the challenges and disappointments, even betrayals, of the Lavalas movement today. At the time of the 11 September 1988 massacre, Macoutes and attachés had infiltrated the congregation of Saint Jean Bosco. Today, some victims of the massacre, now members of OPs, have joined forces with the perpetrators. This was especially clear at the recent funeral for Father Jean "Ti Jan" Pierre-Louis, when members of OPs (particularly partisans of Ben Dupuy's APN) made violent threats. Some Lavalas partisans believe that now that Lavalas is in charge of the government, they should receive jobs. According to the guests, this clientelism represents a betrayal of what the Saint Jean Bosco and Lavalas movement had stood for: the rights of the poor and the twa wòch dife (justice, participation, and transparency). As certain members of the Lavalas movement turn to corruption and become imperialist lackeys, the enemy (Macoutes) can exploit these accusations of "gran manjè" as a political tool against the entire progressive camp, for example, when IRI-funded "Macoutes and false democrats" in turn accused SAJ/Veye Yo of being funded by IRI. The question remains of how to hold Lavalas accountable and to keep the twa wòch dife intact.

  • À l’occasion du 10e anniversaire du massacre de Saint-Jean Bosco, Eliphète St. Pierre, Maryse Jean-Charles et Lenz Jean-François, trois membres de SAJ/Veye Yo, discutent de l’absence de justice pour les victimes du massacre, et aussi des défis, déceptions, et même trahisons du Mouvement Lavalas. Le 11 Septembre 1988, au moment du massacre, de nombreux brassards rouges (macoutes et attachés) avaient infiltré la Congrégation de Saint-Jean Bosco. De nos jours, plusieurs victimes membres d’OP s’associent aux anciens bourreaux. C’est devenu encore plus évident lors des funérailles du Père Jean « Ti Jean » Pierre-Louis, où des membres d’OP (surtout des partisans de l’APN de Ben Dupuy) avaient proféré des menaces violentes. Des partisans de Lavalas s’imaginent que puisqu’il y a un gouvernement Lavalas, ils doivent être employés par ce gouvernement. D’après les invités, ce clientèlisme représente une trahison des valeurs de Saint-Jean Bosco et du mouvement Lavalas : le droit des plus pauvres et les « twa wòch dife » (justice, participation et transparence). Alors que des membres de Lavalas succombent à la corruption et deviennent les laquais de l’impérialisme, l’ennemi (i.e. les macoutes) utilisent les accusations de « gran manjè » (profiteurs) comme outil politique contre l’ensemble du camp progressiste. Par exemple, l’IRI finance des macoutes et des faux démocrates, qui accusent SAJ/Veye Yo d’être financés par l’IRI. La question reste ouverte : comment s’assurer que Lavalas prenne ses responsabilités, comment garder vivants les trois principes de Lavalas ?
