  • Jean Dominique rencontre Adelson Calixte, maire-adjoint de Ganthier, et Ralph Lapointe, porte-parole du comité d’initiative de la commune de Ganthier. Récemment, des troubles ont éclaté après que la population ait décidé de faire la grève pour exiger l’électrification de la région. La police a réagi avec violence, entrant chez les gens illégalement, y compris chez Calixte. Il existe une tension entre les élus locaux et le pouvoir central. La mairie essayait de contrôler la situation alors que la police brutalisait la population. Le ministère des Travaux publics et les parlementaires représentant Ganthier n’ont rien fait pour satisfaire les revendications de la population. Ganthier fait face à d’autres problèmes d’infrastructure, en plus de l’électricité. Il n’y a ni eau potable ni irrigation. Actuellement, la ville ressemble à une ville fantôme.

  • Jean Dominique interviews Adelson Calixte, the deputy mayor of Ganthier, and Ralph Lapointe, the spokesman for the initiative committee for the commune of Ganthier, about the situation in Ganthier. Recently, there has been upheaval, after the population organized strikes calling for electricity in the area. The police reacted with violence, illegally invading homes without cause (including Calixte's home). There is a fundamental tension between the local government and the central powers, as the municipality attempts to control the situation while facing violence from the national police and a lack of response from the Ministry of Public Works and the parliamentarians who are supposed to represent Ganthier. Ganthier faces other infrastructural problems in addition to the lack of electricity, including lack of potable water and irrigation. In recent years, it has come to resemble a ghost town.
