La rencontre réunissait des représentants de plusieurs secteurs et partis politiques haïtiens. François a exprimé l’opposition du PROP au programme néolibéral et à l’occupation étrangère, même si certains étrangers participaient à la rencontre, même si Marc Bazin du MIDH a proposé une série de réformes économiques que rejette le PROP. Cependant, ils ont essayé de discuter et de rechercher un consensus. Il ne s’agit pas d’un accord comme celui signé par Serge Gilles et K-Plim, avec les partis de Roger Lafontant et Prosper Avril. Selon François, travailler avec ses adversaires politiques est une chose, collaborer avec l’ennemi ou les bourreaux est une autre. Il souligne l’importance de la participation des secteurs populaires à l’éducation civique, il explique les rapports du PROP avec Lavalas, et aborde les questions de réconciliation, justice et vengeance.

  • Jean Dominique interviews François Maxi of Pouvoir Rassemblement des Organisations Populaires (PROP) following the International Peace Academy meeting in Trinidad, which brought together representatives of various sectors and political parties in Haiti. He discusses PROP's opposition to neoliberalism and foreign occupation, despite the participation of the international community at the meeting, and despite proposed economic reforms by Marc Bazin of MIDH. Nonetheless they tried to engage in dialogue and consensus-building. This differs the accord signed by Serge Gilles, K-Plim and others with the political parties of Roger Lafontant and Prosper Avril. In François's words, it is one thing to work with your political adversaries, and another to work with your enemies and executioners. François underlines the important of the popular sector (grassroots organizations) in civic education, explains PROP's current relationship with Lavalas, and discusses questions of reconciliation, justice, and revenge.
