Bastien décrit le processus de démocratisation en Afrique du Sud après la fin de l’apartheid. Il parle des relations au sein de l’African National Congress (ANC), des rapports entre l’ANC et le National Party. Il est aussi question du travail de la Commission Vérité et Réconciliation, des inégalités et des injustices qui existent toujours. Bastien et Dominique comparent la situation politique en Afrique du Sud à celle d’Haïti, en particulier en ce qui a trait à la réconciliation, la justice et la division politique.

  • Jean Dominique interviews Kelly Bastien, MP from Acul-du-Nord, about his visit to South Africa as part of a recent state delegation. Bastien describes South Africa's process of democratization after the end of apartheid, including the internal dynamics within the African National Congress (ANC) and the ANC's relationship with the National Party, the work of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission, and continuing inequalities and injustice (for South Africa is a country where the Black population has civil rights but does not yet have social rights). Bastien and Dominique then compare South Africa's political situation to Haiti's, particularly concerning questions of reconciliation, justice, and political division. Haiti's political crisis is due to fundamental distrust and divisiveness between political factions.
