Boucard and Jean Dominique examine the implications of Christ's imperative to love another another, and the Church's silence around the exclusion of the majority of Haitians from the political process. After a digression into representations of Erzulie, they turn to the question of culpability: do Lafontant's words obscure the question of who are the oppressors and who are the victims? Dominique observes that he has never seen Duvalierists get down on their knees to ask forgiveness for their crimes. Dominique views this as a tragic choice: society must either open its eyes and acknowledge the horrors of the past while risking worsening the situation, or else willfully close its eyes and deny the past in hopes that it will create national unity? In the second case, the criminals of the past can return to power. According to Boucard, the solution to this dilemma is an effective justice system.

Selon lui, c'est un choix cornélien : soit la société ouvre les yeux et reconnaît les horreurs du passé au risque de faire empirer la situation, soit elle les ferme volontairement dans l'espoir de créer une unité nationale. Dans le second cas, les bourreaux de jadis pourraient revenir au pouvoir. D'après Boucard, la solution à ce dilemme se trouve dans un système judiciaire efficace.
