On the occasion of the fiftieth anniversary of the Association Médicale Haïtienne, Dr. Claude Suréna discusses the history and politics of the association, including the ethics of medical doctors who commit abuses, doctors turned dictators and Macoutes. How, Jean Dominique asks, could François Duvalier have been a doctor who took the Hippocratic Oath? Dominique refers to other doctor-collaborators, such as Dr. Mengele in Nazi Germany. In addition to Duvalierist elements within the AMH, they also discuss the relationships between the AMH and Haitian doctors' associations in the diaspora, the problem of "brain drain," and scientific research.
À l’occasion du cinquantième anniversaire de l’Association Médicale Haïtienne (AMH), le Dr. Claude Suréna rappelle l’histoire et la politique de l’association, qui comprend l’éthique des médecins qui ont commis des abus, des médecins devenus dictateurs et macoutes. Jean Dominique demande comment François Duvalier a-t-il pu prêter le serment d’Hippocrate. Dominique fait référence à d’autres médecins collaborateurs, comme le Dr Mengele dans l’Allemagne nazie. En plus de la question des duvaliéristes au sein de l’AMH, ils discutent aussi des rapports entre l’AMH et les associations des médecins haïtiens à l’étranger. Discussion aussi sur la fuite des cerveaux et la recherche scientifique.
