  • François Houtard, sociologue français, parle des résultats d’une enquête qu’il a menée sur les croyances culturelles à Port-au-Prince, Les référents culturels à Port-au-Prince. Houtard a mené cette recherche avec Anselme Rémy, et elle a été publiée par le CRESFED. Cette étude examine comment cinq différents groupes socio-économiques (commerçants du secteur informel, commerçants du secteur formel, ouvriers, employés, membres des classes professionnelles et intellectuelles) voient différents phénomène sociaux, comme la modernisation, la religion, les catastrophes naturelles, et les personnages politiques. Houtard parle aussi des changements qui ont lieu en Haïti au niveau religieux, surtout la présence de nouveaux groupes protestants. Enfin, Houtard (qui est aussi prêtre de la théologie de la libération) décrit la visite du Pape Jean-Paul II à Cuba, et l’attitude de l’Église catholique par rapport à Cuba et au communisme en général.

  • French sociologist François Houtart discusses the results of a study on cultural beliefs in Port-au-Prince, conducted with Anselme Rémy and published by CRESFED, entitled "Les référents culturels à Port-au-Prince." The study examined how five socioeconomic groups (tradespeople who work in the informal sector, tradespeople who work in the formal sector, laborers, employees, and members of the professional/intellectual class) view different social phenomena, including modernization, religion, natural disasters, and political figures. Houtart also discusses the changing religious landscape of Haiti, particularly the proliferation of new Protestant groups. Finally, Houtart (who is himself a liberation theology priest as well as a scholar) describes at length Pope John Paul II's visit to Cuba, and the Church's attitude toward Cuba and communism in general.
