  • Jean Dominique interviews Max Elibert, the director-general of the Ministry of Justice, who gives an overview of the Ministry's activity during the year 1997. Among other topics, they discuss justice reform, corruption in the justice system (including judges who are implicated in the false checks affair), the physical construction of courthouses and the management of the courts, reform of the civil registry, the question of using Haitian Creole in the court system, and efforts to include people in the countryside (the "moun andeyò") in the justice system.
