  • Agronomist Harry Abel and Alex Beauchamps discuss the activities of the Collectif Haïtien pour la Protection de l'Environnement et le Développement (COPEDHA). They focus on the toxic waste in Gonaïves, which is poisoned ash from Philadelphia that the ship Khian Sea dumped at Wharf Sedren in 1986. The authorities claimed it was fertilizer. Antonio Paul, brother of Colonel Jean-Claude Paul, made the deal and profited from it. Today, COPEDHA is calling for studies to determine if the toxic waste has contaminated water sources and the food chain, and are also calling for the United States to collect the waste. However, many of the government officials who originally signed the petition when they were in civil society organizations are not speaking out now that they are in the government. Abel and Beauchamps also discuss COPEDHA's other activities, the importance of environmental protection for all social classes, and what is meant by "alternative development."

Cependant de nombreux politiciens, qui avaient signé une pétition en ce sens lorsqu’ils faisaient partie des organisations de la société civile, aujourd’hui qu’ils sont dans le gouvernement font la sourde oreille. Abel et Beauchamps parlent aussi des autres activités du COPEDHA, de l’importance de la protection de l’environnement pour toutes les couches de la société, et sur le sens du « développement alternatif ».
