He states that the situation of Haitians living in the Dominican Republic is grave, because there are no human rights organizations to receive them, nor are there limits on how the Dominican Republic can repatriate Haitians. He states the situation is extremely racist, because even dark-skinned Dominicans are mistreated as Haitians are mistreated. Antoine discusses the deportations of Haitians living in the Dominican Republic. Before Haitians are deported, the Dominican government arrests the Haitians and separates them from their families. The Dominican government does not distinguish between Haitians there legally and those who are not. Many Haitians living in the Dominican Republic are there under a contract with the Dominican government, meaning they are not there illegally, even if they do not have documents such as passports. The Dominican government deports them too out of fear that these Haitians will claim pensions from the Dominican government. These Haitians are fluent in Spanish since they have lived in the Dominican Republic for decades, so they would be able to fight for their rights if they were allowed to stay. Guercy discusses the politics and cultural roots of antihaitianismo in the Dominican Republic. Antoine discusses religion and the message of Jesus Christ to bring life to those suffering.
