Michèle Pierre-Louis, direktris FOKAL, dekri vizit li nan Afrik di Sid kòm envite Open Society Foundation. Li eksplike sa Apated te ye (li mete aksan sou lefèt ke Apated te yon sistèm denigrasyon ak eksklizyon legal, pa menm jan avèk arbitrè diktati Duvalier a), rezistans kont Apated, ak vestij Apated ki toujou la pandan Afrik di Sid ap pase nan tranzisyon demokratik li. Li dekri tou lavi nan «township» yo (gwo bidonvil pou moun nwa yo), travay Komisyon Verite ak Rekonsilyasyon ap fè a, ak wòl relijyon nan sosyete a, pami lòt sijè.
Michèle Pierre-Louis of FOKAL describes her visit to South Africa as part of the Open Society Foundation. She explains Apartheid (emphasizing that it was a legal system of dehumanization and exclusion, unlike the arbitrary terror of the Duvalier dictatorship), resistance to Apartheid, and the aftermath of Apartheid as South Africa goes through its democratic transition. She also describes conditions in the townships, the work of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission, the role of religion, and other topics.
