  • Venezuelan sociologist of religion, Otto Maduro, discusses with Jean Dominique liberation theology in Latin America as resistance to globalization and neoliberalism. Globalization and neoliberalism are, as Maduro describes, forces that destroy hope. They discusses the proliferation of Protestant sects (particularly Evangelicalism and Pentecostalism) throughout Latin America, and whether they might be considered a tool to promote the American globalization agenda. They also discuss the connections between liberation theology and politics, particularly in the case of the Lavalas movement in Haiti, and how such movements can be abused by the enemies of democracy. These days, throughout Latin America and the Caribbean, the Catholic Church hierarchy is less supportive of liberation theology and projects designed to help the poor.

C'est un moyen de résistance contre la mondialisation et le néolibéralisme, des doctrines que Maduro décrit en tant que forces qui détruisent l'espoir.
