  • Jean Dominique interviews Eric Derice, Minister of Planning and External Cooperation, on his recent trip with President René Préval to Paris, Brussels, and Bonn to obtain aid for Haiti from the governments of France, Belgium, and Germany, and the European Union. France has promised to support the Police Nationale d'Haïti and to extend MINUHA's time in Haiti, and to help the Ministry realize these plans. French investors have stated that they are ready to invest in Haitian telecommunications and infrasctructure. Derice and Préval have signed an accord with Brussels for Brussels to give 3 million USD towards the construction of public housing in Les Cayes and to support development of the public sector. They discuss how they plan to use money promised towards agriculture and infrastructure.
