Jean Dominique interviews Minister of Agriculture agronomist Gérald Mathurin about the state of agricultural production in Haiti. Mathurin states that Haiti is currently at a dietary deficit, meaning that its people consume more than the country can produce. The difference is made up for with imports. Mathurin explains the difference between food produced for consumption in Haiti and food produced for export. He explains a rehabilitation plan for the Artibonite valley that ODVA has in collaboration with the Inter-American Development Bank. They discuss the impact of the presence of non-governmental organizations in the valley.
Jean Dominique interroge l’agronome Gérald Mathurin, Ministre de l’Agriculture, sur l’état de la production agricole dans le pays. Mathurin dit qu’Haïti a un déficit alimentaire, ce qui signifie que le pays ne produit pas assez pour nourrir ses habitants. Ce déficit doit être comblé par l’importation de nourriture. Il explique la différence entre la nourriture produite pour la consommation en Haïti et celle qui est destinée à l’exportation. Il présente le plan de réhabilitation de l’ODVA pour la vallée de l’Artibonite, en collaboration avec la BID. Discussion sur l’impact de plusieurs organisations non gouvernementales dans la vallée.
