  • Jean Dominique interviews Minister of Justice Max Antoine and asks him whether his appointment to his post means that the Haitian people will finally get the justice they have been demanding for the past few decades. Antoine states he accepted the job with the intention of answering the people's pleas for justice, having marched with them numerous times before when he worked as a lawyer. Dominique asks whether he is uneasy about being in charge of the repressive arm of the Haitian government, referring to police and prisons. Antoine says this perception of the police force can be changed by reminding people of the role of police to protect the people. Dominique asks Antoine for his thoughts on President Préval's declaration that the authority of the state must be restored. Antoine states the state Préval refers to is not a state that represses and pillages, but rather one that disciplines, collects taxes fairly, and distributes justice to all. He states he knows this transition of the role of the state will be met with resistance from within, but it will be a necessary struggle.

  • Jean Dominique interroge le Ministre de la Justice, Max Antoine, qui vient d’être nommé. Dominique lui demande si le peuple haïtien va enfin obtenir justice, comme il le réclame depuis des années. Antoine déclare qu’il a accepté ce poste pour répondre aux demandes de justice de la population, parce qu’il savait manifester avec elle lorsqu’il était avocat. Dominique lui demande s’il n’est pas mal à l’aise, en étant en charge du système répressif du gouvernement, c’est à dire la police et les prisons. Il demande à Antoine ce qu’il pense de la déclaration du Président Préval qui a dit qu’il faut « restaurer l’autorité de l’état ». Antoine déclare que la perception de la police peut changer si l’on rappelle au peuple que le rôle de la police est de protéger la population. Antoine précise que « l’état » de la déclaration du président n’est pas l’état répressif et spoliateur, mais un état discipliné, qui collecte les taxes, et qui donne justice à tous. Antoine reconnait que la transition n’est pas facile, que de nombreux fonctionnaires mécontents s’opposeront à ses efforts, mais c’est une lutte nécessaire.
