  • President of the Chamber of Commerce Fritz Kénol speaks with Jean Dominique about commerce and the private sector, trade relations between Haiti and the Dominican Republic (Kénol recently accompanied President René Préval to Santo Domingo), Haiti's untapped touristic potential, and the integration of Haiti into the globalized economy. Kénol also describes the differences between the Chamber of Commerce and other institutions that represent the business sector (such as ADIH), and the relationship between commerce and Haiti's political situation, including the implications of the US embargo of Haiti during the coup years. (Dominique teases him briefly about the business owners who received gifts in the name of post-coup d'état "reconciliation.") They also discuss what increasing domestic production represents for Haiti's private sector.
