  • French agronomist Michel Brochet discusses his experiences working with the Haitian peasantry in Madian-Salagnac in southwestern Haiti (Plateau des Rochelois), where there has been a long-standing collaborative agricultural project between agronomists and local farmers. He describes, in particular, what he has learned from Haitian peasant farmers (for example, why they plant beans, corn, and sweet potatoes on the same plot of land). Brochet describes the liberation theology origins of the Madian-Salagnac project, the water cistern program, and an agricultural credit program introduced by agronomy students and Haitian colleagues from Damiens. Brochet observes that traffic has worsened in Port-au-Prince, which he attributes to rural-to-urban migration -- the peasant farmers with whom he works cannot live off their land any longer.

  • L’agronome français Michel Brochet décrit son expérience avec les paysans à Madian-Salagnac dans le Sud-ouest du pays (Plateau des Rochelois), où il existe depuis longtemps un projet où collaborent des agronomes et les paysans de la localité.
