L'ISPAN a identifié plus de 350 monuments historiques à préserver, tels que des bâtiments, des sites remarquables et des statues. Selon Elie, nombre de ces monuments et des villes dans lesquels ils sont érigés sont en danger faute d'entretien et de leur inhérente fragilité; il s'inquiète de leur possible disparition. Il décrit l'importante relation entre la mémoire historique et la conservation des monuments en expliquant que les sites préservés correspondent à l'histoire dont le peuple souhaite se souvenir. Les objectifs de l'ISPAN sont de changer la façon dont les gens voient l'héritage national et de rester aussi impartial que possible afin de n'exclure aucun monument.

  • Daniel Elie from ISPAN (the Institut de Sauvegarde du Patrimoine National, which oversees the study and preservation of Haiti’s national heritage), discusses current preservation projects and gives an overview of the type of work carried out by the institute. ISPAN has identified over 350 historical monuments to be preserved, which include buildings, famous areas and sites, as well as statues. Elie expresses concern that with poor maintenance, many of these monuments and the cities that house them are fragile and in danger of disappearing. He describes the important relationship between historical remembrance and monument preservation by explaining that the sites that get preserved correspond to the histories that people choose to remember. ISPAN aims to change the way people understand heritage, and to be as neutral as possible in order to not exclude any monuments.
