Watercolor by Boquet depicting a landscape view of Cap-Français (now Cap-Haïtien) in the aftermath of the defeat of the forces of Governor François-Thomas Galbaud du Fort following a 3 day battle June 20-22, 1793. Scene depicts soldiers as well as townspeople engaged in a variety of activities including celebrating, fighting, riding horseback, driving loaded wagons (presumably to leave town), and tending the wounded.
The work has been attributed to Pierre-Jean-Louis Boquet, a French painter residing in the colony of Saint-Domingue at the time of the depicted events, who had returned to France by 1794.
