- Caricature of Alfred Dreyfus (1859-1935) as a six-headed serpent pierced by a dagger which bears the sign, "the traitor." Dreyfus, the figure at the center of the Dreyfus Affair, was a jew and a captain in the French Army. He was falsely convicted of treason, tortured, and exiled for allegedly selling French military intelligence to the Germans in 1895. In 1906, an appeals court pronounced Dreyfus' innocence and he was re-instated in the army and promoted to Lieutenant Colonel. Hand colored.
