YUAN Bangwa (b. 1933) is a resident of Jiangwan Village, Shaanxi Province. In this interview, Yuan says that when the whole nation was devoted to iron-smelting and steel production, villagers burned logs to produce charcoal, they almost cut off all the trees in the village. A big raw iron sheet were carried by two men to send to the county. The grain production was very limited because they couldn't afford much fertilizer. All the young men were sent to build the reservoir, only women and elders were left and they didn't have much engery to work in the field because of hunger.
袁帮娃1933年出生,是陕西省商洛市丹凤县月日镇江湾村村民。袁老人说大炼钢铁时,村里烧炭把树都烧光了。炼好的生铁板两人抬着送到县里。地里的粮食收成极少,因为没有钱买肥料,村里的青壮年都被抽去修水库了,剩下的妇孺和老人也没有力气干活。
