Song Xiutian (b.1926) is a resident of Daguo Village, Linying County, Luohe City, Henan Province. In 1942, he ran away from the village to solicit food. His grandfather, elder uncle, and one of the brothers died. In 1948, he took part in the revolution and helped to carry stretchers when Liberation Army fought the Kuomintang’s ninth army. In 1949, the chairman of the local agriculture committee was replaced for his problematic lifestyle, and Song announced this decision. The former chairman committed suicide that night, and his family accused Song of illegal inquisition, after which Song was denounced by the party and put into prison for nine months. Later he became a cadre again, taught in the school and supervised many projects.
