Pan Yunqin (b.1942) is a resident of Jiangwan Village, Musiyilan, Heilongjiang Province. She attributed the hunger to the three years of Great Famine and China’s debts to the USSR. Villagers used food coupons to receive limited food and ate famine foods. When Pan was in confinement after childbirth, she saved food for the hungry children in the neighborhood. But she was suspected to have more food than others, which would lead to denunciation. Pan went to work at Eating Halls soon afterwards, so that she could get more food and feed her child.
