LIU Shuangyan (b. 1928) is a resident of Xiawan Village, Shaanxi Province. In this interview, Liu recalls the life during the Great Famine in her village. The communal canteen lasted for one year: one scoop person every meal, old people often got only soup with wild vegetables, many people died of starvation. There were not much oil or salt available. Everyone had to work or no food at all. People were given cloth stamps but far from enough so that her children were naked. She also recalled her suffering with a bound feet.
