Li Qunying (b. 1939) is a resident of Guanchong Village, Guangdong Province. In this interview, Li talks about her lifelong hardship. Li’s mother left home when she was 5, so she was raised by her father. After the Liberation, Li was sold to a family as their daughter. However, after frequently being beaten up, Li escaped several times and eventually went home with her father. She stayed at home until she got married in 1961. Due to the shortage of all kinds of materials, Li waited in line for a long time in order to get herself a pair of new shoes for the wedding. Later when she was working at the production team, in addition to the heavy workload, she had to get up before dawn to chop firewood. If she were late for work, her work points would be deducted. When the One-Child Policy was carried out, if someone did not have the vasectomy as required, his work points would be removed. In this interview, Li also sang many old songs.
