- Description:

Jiang Guifang (b. 1920) is a resident of Liutong Village, Guangdong Province. In this interview, Jiang recalls the life during the Great Famine. Though having given birth to five kids, Jiang did not obtain enough nutrients after the labor because of the famine. All she could eat was wild edible herbs rather than meat. As a result, as she grows older, she has developed many diseases. Back then if people in the village got sick, because of poverty, they could not afford a doctor but would just boil some herbs by themselves.
