胡兰香1938年出生。1958年开始吃食堂,吃的是稀玉米粥和玉米棒和玉米叶磨碎后做的馍。人们还到山上采野菜采树叶吃,但没有人饿死。大炼钢铁时把各家铁器都收走了。妇女们负责往炼铁厂上送炭。当时,她们一家四口,每年能分三四百斤玉米棒子;夏天一个人能给一二十斤麦子。1964年起情况好转。
Hu Lanxiang (b. 1938) is a resident of Xiangzidian Village, Yinhua Town, Shanyang County, Shangluo City, Shanxi Province. She said that her village canteen started in 1958, where corn congee and buns made of grinded corn leaves and cobs, were offered. People were hungry and they went to the mountains to find wild vegetables and gather tree leaves. Nobody died of starvation. During the backyard furnace movement, all women participated by sending coals to the iron factory. Her family of four could get three to four hundred jin of corn ears, and twenty-some wheat per person during summer time. Things started to get better from 1964.
