Huang Shiying (b. 1931) is a resident of Zhaixia Village, Pengzhai Town, Heping County, Heyuan City, Guangdong Province. After the communization, she did not suffer from hunger because she was a cadre and her husband was the headmaster of the local elementary school. Although it was not allowed to cook at home, Huang’s family got food with food coupons and secretly cooked at home. When people were getting classified, her family was almost considered as landlords because they had three shops and several fields. Her grandfather was often denounced. They managed to get classified as rich peasants later to escape more miseries.
