Interview with Huang Meide

Huang Meide (b. 1919) is a resident of Zhuba Village, Baiyun Town, Shimen County, Hunan Province. In this interview, Huang recalls how she was starving at the people’s commune canteen, and how her son and several older villagers died of starvation. Huang also recalls the villagers were forced to work at night, and the bones of some villagers’ ancestors were digged out of tombs in order to obtain farming fertilizer during the Great Leap Forward.

黄梅德（1919年生）是湖南省石门县白云乡竹坝桥村村民。在这段口述中，黄老人讲述了1958年兴办公社食堂时吃不饱挨饿，自己儿子及村里几位老人饿死的情况。黄老人还回忆了大跃进期间夜里也要出工劳动，以及为了积累肥料挖村民祖坟的情况。
