Interview with He Zenghua

He Zenghua (b.1936) is a resident of Hansuoxihai Village, Longquan Town, Yimen County, Yunnan Province. In this interview, He recalls life during the Great Famine. During the three years eating at People’s Commune canteen, only cadres had enough to eat, while other members all starved. Young people could go out and work on water reservation, but the elders and children had no choice, too starved to move even one bit.

贺曾华1936年出生，是云南省易门县龙泉镇韩所西海村的村民。在这段口述中，曾老人回忆了大饥荒期间的生活。那三年吃伙食团只有干部能够吃，社员都得挨饿。年轻的还可以去修水利，但老人小孩就没别的办法，饿得动都不能动。
