Interview with Dong Fenglian, Zhang Xiaoying, Han Shi

Dong Fenglian (b.1936) is a resident of Lulong County, Qinhuangdao City, Hebei Province. Dong recollects that food was most scarce in 1958.

佟凤莲（1936年生）是河北省秦皇岛市卢龙县潘庄镇亮甲峪村村民。老人回忆说1958是最苦的时候，食堂提供的食物极少。

Zhang Xiaoying (b.1948) is a resident of Lulong County, Qinhuangdao City, Hebei Province. Zhang recollects that she was only a teenager during the Great Famine. At the commue canteen, each person usually got one scoope of cangee, and had to eat all sorts of wild vegetables to survive the famine.

张小英（1948年生）是河北省秦皇岛市卢龙县印庄乡长庄村村民。老人回忆了三年饥饿的时候，自己十二岁，食堂通常是一人一勺稀粥，靠吃各种野菜叶充饥。

Han Shi (b.1946) is a resident of Changzhuang Village, Yinzhuang Xiang, Lulong County, Qinhuangdao City, Hebei Province. Han recollects that she was only a teenager during the Great Famine. She was working day and night, producing iron and steel and sieving sand. People were poor and without properties. They ate food that was for livestock. The production team leaders reported the harvests falsely. While they could get more food, common people could only starve.

韩氏（1946年生）是河北省秦皇岛市卢龙县印庄乡长庄村村民。老人回忆了三年饥饿的时候，自己才十五六岁岁，炼钢铁、筛沙子，日夜工作。那时候村民很穷，家里没有东西，吃的东西和牲口的食物差不多。大队、小队干部虚报粮食产量，可以捞多点东西吃，老百姓就只能挨饿了。
