郭进才1950年出生。他说村里土改之后就开始吃食堂。食堂只有玉米稀粥,人们都找野菜充饥。他当时上学不用干活。食堂一共吃了三年,有人饿死。62年允许挖荒坡地种庄稼。他68年参军,到了四川。曾经随部队工作组下乡,参与当地清理阶级队伍,即批斗地主分子。他在部队里学会了认字,还学了点医。当兵回来,在村里做赤脚医生,没有工资,生产队给记工分。当时村里有两个赤脚医生,他从书本上自学医学知识。
Guo Jincai (b.1950) is a resident of Xiangzidian Village, Yinhua Town, Shanyang County, Shangluo City, Shanxi Province. He said that the village canteen started right after the Land Reform. The canteen only served thin corn congee, people had to find wild vegetables to eat. The canteen lasted for three years, some people died of starvation. He didn't have to work at that time because he was little. Starting from 1962, peole were allowed to utilize wasteland and grow grains there. He joined the army in 1968 in Sichuan. He was once part of military work group sent to a local village to organize struggle sessions where former landlords were critized and punished. He learned to read and write in the army, and gained some basic medical knowledge. When he returned to his village, he worked as a barefoot doctor. He had no salary but was given workpoints for treating people. He taught himself many skills from books.
