- Description:

Gao Wei (b. 1946) is a resident of Pengtian Village, Jiangxi Province. In this interview, Gao talks about the life during the Great Leap Forward and the Great Famine. In Gao’s opinion, most leaders and members of the local production team only focused on superficial political slogans and exaggerating production rather than putting real effort into farming, which led to reduced grain production and eventually the famine. The situation did not improve until the communal canteen was closed down.
