陈蕙兰1942年出生。1958年开始吃食堂,她是初中生,弟弟是小学生。家里把粮食都上交,弟弟为了有一点吃的和大人一起干活。她母亲因病允许买回粮食在家自己做一点吃的。村领导孔全朝浮夸风,结果村里有丈夫杀了妻子吃了,孔最后自缢。陈在学校上学,上半天课,然后去劳动;吃的饭特别稀,吃不饱,有饿的晕过去的,没有饿死的。陈后来被保送到高中。她61年毕业以后,62年我就参加在丹凤教书。
Chen Huilan (b.1942) is a resident of Xiangzidian Village, Yinhua Town, Shanyang County, Shangluo City, Shanxi Province. Chen said that village canteen started in 1958. She was a middle school student, her younger brother was an elementary school student. Families had to give their grain to the village canteen. Her brother worked alongside adult so he could earn workpoint and have food. Her mother was sold some grain and allowed to cook at home because of her sickness. The village cadre Kong Chuanchao exaggered their production but when there was a cannobalist case, Kong killed himself. At the middle school, she studied half day and worked the other half. The food was far from enough, some students fainted because of starvation but no one died. Chen continued in high school, graduated in 1961 and worked at a teacher ever since.
