Jewett's Merchants' Prices-Current and Shipping-List, 1853; correspondence regarding a lawsuit against William O. Slade, a land property dispute between Alex Rives and Jeffrey Massey, and a potential 1853 sale of land to Massie by Paulina Pollard; letters responding to an advertisement Massie placed seeking a female teacher in 1851; notes about the poor health of "Hope," William Massie's son; Includes a 1852 July 13 letter from Alexander Brooks offering "a servant girl," unnamed, aged "about 12 years old" for sale to Massie as a seamstress. Includes some 1853 January letters from John Jones to Massie with business news, shipping updates, Richmond news, and recent slave hire prices for different sorts of enslaved people, with one letter noting that "with exception of selling and hiring slaves, very little business doing here."
