- Lee Konitz (b. 1927) was born in Chicago, IL. An alto saxophonist, Konitz participated in Jazz Loft jam sessions from the 1950s through 1960. During this time he studied with Hall Overton. In this oral history, Konitz discusses the atmosphere at the Jazz Loft, including memories of other musicians who played there like Bob Brookmeyer and Jimmy Raney. Konitz also talks about attending composition classes led by Hall Overton at Juilliard and Overton's reputation within the jazz community.
