This is Sidney Gamble's first visit to Ding Xian where the National Association for the Mass Education Movement (MEM), led by James Yen (Yangchu Yan 晏陽初), was based. The footage documents MEM's literacy program, its promostion of better farming methods; as well as daily life in the villages. Scenes are proceeded with detailed text to explain the content and its significance.
