Selections from the Shāhnamah linked by prose, compiled and written by the author in 1063 H [1652 or 1653] at the request of Shamshīr Khān, governor of Ghaznīn.

Title and variant titles supplied by cataloger, per Rieu.
Physical description: 17 lines per page, written in nastaʻlīq on glazed, laid Arabic paper. Headings in red; keywords overlined in red. Verses indicated by three red dots. Text overlined in red on leaves 2b-3a. Text framed in orange, gold and blue rulings. Catchwords. Text in two columns on leaves 4b-6a and in small sections on a few other leaves. One or more leaves missing after leaves 35, 119, 124. A few leaves detached. Notes in French and Persian by a number of hands on leaves 1a-2a, 242b. Some staining and smudging.
Decoration: 11 miniatures of mediocre quality; scenes illustrated include Rustam slaying the White Dīv (leaf 71a), Kay Kāvus airborn (leaf 77a), and Rustam slaying Suhrāb (leaf 91b). Illuminated ʻunvān on leaf 2b, consisting of scrollwork containing floral pattern in gold and pink on a blue ground; basmalah in white on gold ground.
Contemporary black morocco with blind-stamped central mandorla, pendants and fillets; brown morocco doublures.
