Decoration: Decorative canon tables. Ornamental headpieces are provided for the opening of each of the Gospels. The ornamental head-piece for Mark, topped in the center of the bar by a floral finial, is filled with geometrical alternating circles and lozenges filled with quadrapatite floral ornament in the lozenges and hexapartite within the circles. Evangelists' portraits of Matthew, seated in a high-back chair, copying the text, reading stand before him, facing the opening of the Gospel, and now badly flaked; St. Mark seated, facing the opening of the Gospel, reading; St. Luke seated, facing the opening of the Gospel, teaching; and St. John seated, facing away from the opening of the Gospel, teaching. Penwork ornament is used frequently to mark the beginning and the ending of the Gospel equipment and is almost always done in red.
