- Title:
- William H. Willimon - "When the Outsiders Become Insiders" (May 10, 1998)
- Description:
-
Sermon start time: (Part 1) 0:05. Sermon end time: (Part 1) 20:00.
Peter’s clinging to dietary laws prevents him from receiving gentiles into his faith community. God used a shocking vision to break human perception of limits. In the same way, the preacher provokes his audience to consider whether churches have ‘new’ limits, such as classism and racism, that exclude people from the house of God. (Abstract created by Duke Divinity School staff.)
Key quotation: "Will we allow the Holy Spirit to prod us today, to give us a vision, to drag us, as it dragged our apostolic forebears before us, kicking and screaming all the way toward the wideness of God's mercy? Or will we hunker down right here with people just like us?"
