- Title:
- William H. Willimon - "First Things First" (June 17, 1984)
- Description:
-
Sermon start time: (Part 1) 29:20. Sermon end time: (Part 1) 46:57.
At his debutant preaching at Duke Chapel in 1984, Willimon used the creation story from Genesis to remind his audience of people at Duke, a prestigious research university, that God is still the Creator of all things and the Keeper of order during times of chaos. Pointing out that modern civilization and science have the knowledge of nature and treat the world as a functioning machine, yet they are unable to deal with the frigidity of things, Willimon calls for a return to the innocent and childlike faith in God like Israelites used to have back in 500 B.C.E. when their civilization was fragile.
