The collection includes a letter from Moses Drury Hoge, Presbyterian minister to Dabney concerning Hoge's education, Randolph-Macon College, President John Tyler, and social customs in North Carolina; and a letter from William Henry Ruffner, also a Presbyterian minister, discussing courses and lectures at Princeton Theological Seminary, the biblical scholarship of Jacob J. Janeway, and the temperance leaders John B. Gough and Lucian Minor.
