Biographical Sketch of Creators: Louisa Burroughs Strange was born 16 January 1789 in Dublin, Ireland, daughter of William Burroughs and Letitia Newburgh. She married Thomas Andrew Lumisden Strange in 1806 at Fort St. George, Madras, India. The couple had twelve children; the eldest daughter was also named Louisa. The family resided in Madras until 1816, when they returned to London, England. Louisa Burroughs Strange died in London on 2 January 1862.
Binding Details: Binding: crimson velvet, front decorated with gold ornaments, thread, and colored beads in design of a cathedral facade; back cover with gold thread, beads, and ornaments in a three-paneled design, two decorative floral borders and centerpiece of patterned flowers surrounded by wavy patterned gold thread. Watered silk linings. Housed in a full red goatskin case with lock and key, front hand tooled in gold and blind. Gilt centerpiece with initials and date: L. B., 1840.
