Burwell family papers

About the Digital Collection

Various family letters and statements of accounts, including an estate account (1802) that lists sales of land and slaves, as well as an order placed for household goods (7 November 1879). Topics of interest in the letters include tobacco trade and prices, Presbyterian camp meetings, and the health of family members. Also, there is a letter from Luke L. Burwell to his brother Lewis (11 September 1849), in which Luke counters charges of plantation mismanagement made by his overseer.
