Single-page circular issued by the State Central Southern Rights Anti-Coercion Committee, urging pro-secessionists to organize and campaign for the success of the February referendum on Tennessee's secession from the Union: "We can, we must carry our state. Our hearts would sink within us, at the bare thought of the degradation and infamy of abandoning our more Southern brethren, united to us by all the ties of sympathy and of interest, and of being chained to the car of Black Republican States, who would themselves despise us for our subordination."
