The writer also defends himself against accusations that presumably circulated in Lima against him. It probably refers to Carlos Pedemonte y Talavera, Peruvian politician and cleric, who was elected archbishop of Lima in 1826 but was not ratified by the Holy See, and had to resign in 1827.
