Announcement in the Raleigh News and Observer that James Bryce, British Ambassador to the United States, and author of "The American Commonwealth", will address the annual meeting of the North Carolina Literary and Historical Association in Raleigh, on November 4, 1909. The meeting will include "the presentation...of the bust of William A. Graham...by the sculptor Ruckstuhl..." Other meeting participants mentioned are: Capt. Thos. W. Mason and Mr. Frank Nash, of Hillsboro; Hon. Junius Davis, of Wilmington; Mr. Clarence H. Poe; Col. J. Bryan Grimes; Mr. A. M. Scales, of Greensboro; Chairman R. H. Battle, Dr. D. H. Hill, Mr. R. D. W. Connor. "The announcement of the award of the Patterson Memorial Cup for the most notable literary production of the year will also be made at this meeting." Railroad travel to the meeting should be economical as the "National Farmers' Congress" is also meeting in Raleigh the same week.
